Anorexia – how families cope
Tuesday, 4 September 2012 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EST)
Professor Christine Halse is the Chair in Education at Deakin University's Faculty of Arts and Education, and lead author of the internationally acclaimed book Inside Anorexia. This book uses the stories of teenage girls and their families as a starting point for understanding the physical effects, the effect on siblings and parents, related psychiatric problems, causes and treatment associated with anorexia. Professor Halse is currently leading a major, national research project investigating the social contributors to eating disorders in boys and girls of primary school age.
Professor Halse is President of the Australian Association for Education Research (AARE), President-Elect of the Asia Pacific Education Research Association (APERA), and national representative on the World Education Research Association (WERA).
This event will offer valuable insights into how families can cope with anorexia and related eating disorders. It is a must for immediate and extended family members, teachers, general practitioners and allied health professionals.
